Connect the black wire to the other brass screw.
Light switch wiring 2 black 1 red. If the switch that was there is a standard light switch with two brass screws on it and one green screw you can connect the red wire to either of the brass screws. Ask your own electrical question. It had a basic switch on it how should i wire it.
If you join the two red wires together at the fitting in a suitable connector block or wago connector put one of the black wires in the live pot the switched live on the fitting and one of the black wires in the neutral pot and the green yellow. Thinking about it it may have been 2 blacks and 1 red but either way there are only the two colours. From what you are saying it sounds like its the end of line for the lighting circuit therefore you have one permanently live cable and one switch cable.
Assuming these are live red and neutral black i wired them in. It has to go to the screw that is a different color than the other two screws. If you don t have a ground wire leave the green screw unconnected.
I have an old 2 way 1 gang light switch to replace but the one currently fitted has 2 red wires 1 black wire as opposed to the three different wires as shown on most sites that i checked out. If you have a ground wire connect the ground wire to the green screw. This is an older house circa 1967 and the wiring appears to be all over the place.

Old old fitting had 1 black wire going into it and the red wire. When changing the ancient light fitting i noticed that there were 2 black wires and 1 red wire. I replaced the old fitting with a new 3 halogen bulb fitting from ikea.
